Zimbabwe:Open Innovation Can Assist Economic Recovery
An article on the Allafrica website says that open innovation can kick-start a new entrepreneurial cycle for Zimbabwe. The central idea behind open innovation is that in a world of widely distributed knowledge, companies cannot afford to rely entirely on their own research, but should instead buy or license processes or inventions (ie patents) from other companies. In addition, internal inventions not being used in a firm’s business should be taken outside the company (eg through licensing, joint ventures or spin-offs. The classical model of generating innovations solely from internal Research & Development is being replaced by models that work at the interface of the organisation and external entities — either competitors or strategic partners or individuals.
