In this doctoral thesis posted on the ESADE website, Henry Nelson reviews seven research articles which  provide a broad perspective on open innovation, from the project level to the innovation system level of analysis. The studies include an exploration of different types of innovation intermediaries in Europe and the US where the analysis reveals different approaches and value propositions adopted by innovation intermediaries. The  thesis addresses the disconnection between open innovation studies and established streams of literature such as innovation intermediaries, dynamic capabilities, innovation speed, corporate venturing and innovation policy.
