Bayer Has Big Plans in West Berkeley for Next 30 Years
The San Francisco Business Times reported that Biocom President and CEO Joe Panetta said that large companies play a critical role in the larger life sciences community as sources of best practices in the functional areas of running a biotech company. “Some of the earliest biotech companies are still in the Bay Area, with both R&D and manufacturing taking place around the Bay. They play a significant role in supporting smaller companies and the ecosystem, in general,” says Panetta, citing Bayer’s CoLaborator incubator in San Francisco’s Mission Bay as an example of an industry leader supporting biotech startups. Bayer’s Open Innovation team in Mission Bay provides a great bridge between the global pharmaceutical company, including its Berkeley biotech team, and CoLaborator partners.
