The End of Open Innovation?
The Hindu website reported that two Spanish researchers tested the open-innovation literature, which implies mutually beneficial results from both inflows and outflows of knowledge. In “Open Innovation: Are Inbound and Outbound Knowledge Flows Really Complementary?,” published in The Strategic Management Journal, they report that buying and selling ideas openly is not necessarily a win-win situation. They conclude with a call for more research on this highly misunderstood topic. The negative results would seem to threaten the trend toward open innovation, but the authors urge caution and further study.
