The Biases That Derail Open Innovation Initiatives
The European Business Review posted a study which asked the question, Why do many open innovation initiatives return underwhelming results? The author’s research on open innovation over the past decade provides an answer: Organizations often fail to recognize the potential of exceptional ideas from external innovation partners because they are prone to idea evaluation biases. Specifically, he identifies three implicit biases that systematically derail open innovation initiatives: positivity, familiarity, and proximity biases. The author goes on to describe in detail each of these implicit biases.
