The Impact of Alliances and Internal R&D on the Firm’s Performance
A study reported in he Brazilian Business Review investigated the role of internal and external R&D on the innovation performance of Brazilian manufacturing firms, as well as the effect of the innovation performance on the future financial performance of these companies. In Brazilian manufacturing firms, external R&D, mainly from strategic alliances, had a positive influence on the innovation performance. Internal R&D investments, such as R&D intensity and level of education of employees, on the other hand, did not affect the innovation performance directly. The paper presents a valuable contribution to understand the relationship among strategic alliances, absorptive capacity, innovation performance and financial performance of the Brazilian manufacturing firms.
